My name is Chris Hill. I lost my twin brother to drug addiction. It has been the most horrendous, painful experience and I hate the thought of other people suffering in this way.
My own life has been a journey through all kinds of addictions, starting with smoking my first cigarette at the age of seven, moving on to alcohol as a teenager, through all manner of drugs, up to cocaine, crack cocaine and finally, something I believed I would never do – heroin. Addiction affected me for 20 years of my life.
I always knew there was something fundamentally wrong with what I was doing but, I had no way out, or so I thought!
By nature, I am a very determined person and I went in search of the answers to solve my problems. I began by reading books on addiction, I tried various medications issued by my doctor and I attended addiction clinics to try to end my cravings for the drugs I was taking.
Through trial and error and after at least 100 attempts to stop, I finally found my freedom through understanding of the subconscious mind and how the mind and body are affected once an addictive substance or activity is introduced. After finding my freedom in 2006, I continued to study addiction and educate myself. After my brother died, I stopped everything and channelled the grief I felt into a new life purpose – to bring the answer to beating addiction to as many people in the world as possible. And that is what I am doing.
I wrote a best-selling book, ‘Get Your Life Back: The Road to Freedom from Addiction’, from which I wrote the 7-Day Beat Addiction Plan, which then led to the workshops and information sessions I now deliver – lifting people out of some of the worst addictions you can imagine.

“I became a Rob Hill Foundation Workshop Leader for Hastings & St Leonards in June 2019 and went on to become a Senior Beat My Addictions Trainer.
“I first met Chris Hill in 2016 when he guided me through his Beat Addiction Programme and completely changed my life. I had been addicted to opiates, amphetamines and tobacco for 10 years, and regardless of the amount of times I put myself through physical withdrawals, I was unable to achieve abstinence due to the lack of understanding about the mind and how addiction works. The programme changed my life overnight – it is so much more than just freedom from addiction. I finally experienced inner peace with freedom of mind that enabled me to live a better life all round, a life that was once restricted by addiction to substances, behaviours, beliefs and thought patterns.
“When I moved from Kent to East Sussex, I knew nobody and was very isolated from the outside world for quite some time. I used this same self-talk method taught in the BMA programme to help me adjust to my new life. The programme provides self-management tools for managing thought processes, (which is why it is so much more than dealing with addiction). I knew that how I felt when I arrived would improve as my brain rewired and, one thought at a time, I adapted to my surroundings and community, eventually creating a good life for myself and my family.
“Mentoring people has opened up a completely different world to me and my life has taken a complete U-turn. It is very rewarding to see others recover and rebuild their lives and this inspires me to continue. It is my passion and purpose now to help others, the same way I was helped.
“Since becoming a Workshop Leader/BMA Trainer, I have mentored people with many different addictions, have taught them how to manage their anxiety and depression as well as helping them heal and recover from childhood trauma and negative beliefs about themselves. Although each person’s situation is different, the common denominator is the same – it’s all in the mind – and the mind can be reprogrammed. I treat each person with the utmost compassion which, in turn, enables them to see themselves differently and learn self-kindness.”
